Originally constructed on the site of what was once part of Hull's North Blockhouse, a fortification from the 16th century, the building has witnessed a tumultuous history. It has served various purposes over the years, from housing the City of Hull Mounted Police to being the base for Annison's Funeral Directors. 

 

One of the most notorious tales associated with the building is an unsolved murder in 1891.
